Chelsea and Arsenal out to beat Real Madrid to Mexican strike sensation… but his club want £90MILLION transfer fee

CHELSEA and Arsenal will have to pay more than £87MILLION to lure striker Santiago Gimenez away from Feyenoord, according to reports.

Gimenez, 22, has been a sensation since arriving from Mexico at the beginning of last season.

He scored 23 goals in all competitions during his debut campaign in the Netherlands.

And he has already netted a stunning 15 times in just 11 matches so far this season.

That form has seen him linked with both Real Madrid and Tottenham.

But according to 90min, he is not considered to be a top target for Los Blancos.

But Chelsea and Arsenal are said to have watched him in recent weeks and are interested in the forward.

However, it is understood they will have to pay an Eredivisie record fee in order to snatch him away from Feyenoord.

The record currently stands at £87m which is the amount Manchester United paid for Antony when he left Ajax last year.

Gimenez is under contract with Feyenoord until 2027.

As a result, the club are in a strong position when it comes to negotiating his transfer fee.

He is not thought to be available in the January window, so clubs will have to wait until next summer to try and sign him.

But Gimenez is not the only striker Chelsea and Arsenal are battling for.

The London rivals are also believed to be fighting it out for Brentford and England man Ivan Toney.
